The Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation is open for submission for the Hurston/Wright Awards for College Writers. It’s the only award of its kind that recognizes Black college writers. First-place winners receive a $1,000 cash prize and free tuition to a Hurston/Wright writing workshop. Winners will be announced May 2020 and will be invited to attend the Legacy Award ceremony hosted in October in Washington, DC.
Eligible students include Black writers who are full-time students in undergraduate and graduate programs (including low-residency MFA programs) at a college or university in the United States are eligible to submit a work of fiction or poetry. They must be enrolled at the time of submission. Students in online-only courses are not eligible. The deadline to submit is January 31, 2020.
