Ok East coast, this one’s for you. If you have a high school senior who wants to get into art school but needs help with their portfolio, check out High School to Art School.
This free portfolio workshop runs three times a year. The fall session is for seniors only and takes place October 17, 2019 – February 15, 2020. Classes meet in Long Island City, Queens on Thursdays from 4 – 7 PM and on Saturdays from 10 AM – 3 PM. Students don’t need to be from Queens; any student within a commuting distance to Long Island City is encouraged to apply. Applications are due by September 15, 2019.
The Fall Session guides students through all aspects of the art school application process: from finalizing the college list to getting the portfolio college-application ready, from writing the college essay to applying for scholarships. This session individualizes support to suit students’ art-making interests and college goals. Additionally, it includes an “Art School Info Day,” where the program arranges one-on-one portfolio reviews for students with prestigious art schools throughout the country. Students will also participate in field trips to museums, galleries, and cultural institutions across NYC.
Disclaimer, don’t freak out parents, the HS2AS curriculum includes drawing sessions with live, nude models to develop students’ observational drawing skills.
