The Summer Coding Leadership Academy (SCLA) is an immersive, free 10-week experience where young men of color, currently in ninth and tenth grades, develop as technology leaders. Inner city students partake in experiential learning, receive mentoring and instruction to develop Leadership Skills, Computer Science Skills, Design Thinking Skills, and Entrepreneurial/Project Management Skills.

The program runs from May 23rd, May 30th, June 6th , June 13 – August 8, 2020, with an orientation on May 16, 2020, at the University of Southern California. This is not a residential program and takes place in Los Angeles.

Students will participate in the Annual South Los Angeles Demo Day. On Demo Day, TXTers are enthused to showcase the skills that they have acquired, and the digital manifestations of those skills through the minimal viable products (M.V.P) they have built. A panel of judges reviews the Demo Day teams and determines 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Recently, four of their senior TXT’ers won the 2019 Congressional App Challenge. They have started a GoFundMe to send them to #HouseOfCode  Tuesday, March 24 in Washington D.C. Exciting! For those on the ‘Gram, you can check out their progress @qravingsofficial.

If your teen wants to join the fun, the regular deadline to apply is March 13, 2020.
